Anthony Weiner sentenced to 21 Months in Prison over sexting case

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner has been sentenced to 21 months in prison with three years of parole for transferring obscene materials to a minor. Prosecutors were looking for a two-year sentence. Transferring obscene material to a minor carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Weiner had plead guilty to the charge only after it was found that he had sent inappropriate messages to a 15 year old girl who had first contacted him through a Twitter account. Among other things, Anthony Weiner told the young high school student that her body was insane and sent her various explicit pictures. He was aware of her age, but continued to contact her on various occasions and social media sites regardless. He had sent the girl thousands of explicit messages.
Anthony Weiner’s lawyers tried for a reduced sentence as he supposedly never actually attempted to meet the 15 year old girl, he also claimed that the girl wanted to write a book about her experience.
During the investigation into Anthony Weiner’s relationship with the high schooler girl, some of Hillary Clinton’s emails were discovered on a mysterious laptop, forcing the former FBI Director James Comey to re-open that investigation last year shortly before the election.

Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin being a close confidant and one of Hillary Clinton’s top aides just added to the shroud of controversy among the Clinton campaign. Huma Abedin has since filed for divorce and Hillary ultimately lost the Election.
