Secretary of Defense Mattis dodges Taliban attack Wednesday in Kabul

Secretary of Defense James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis was attacked by the Taliban on Wednesday. Over fifty rockets and grenades were launched at Kabul’s main airport just moments after Secretary Mattis arrived for talks with high ranking Afghani Officials.
Secretary Mattis had left the Airport just two hours in a helicopter before the attacks, while on his way to meet with Afghanistan’s President Ghani. The Taliban said the Secretaries Aircraft was the main target of the attacks.
Secretary Mattis made comments on the close encounter Wednesday, stating that “the United States will “suffocate” any terror organization operating in the region.

“If in fact there was an attack on an international airport anywhere in the world, if it’s an attack by a terrorist it’s designed to go after innocent people… And this is a classic definition of what the Taliban is up to now,” Mattis stated.

“We will suffocate any hope that Al Qaeda or ISIS or the Taliban have of winning by killing. I want to reinforce to the Talban that the only path to peace and political legitimacy to them is through a negotiated settlement,” he said.
The Secretary of Defense is in Afghanistan to support President Trump’s mission to re-strengthen American success efforts in the region. The United States is building a new plan for the years long War. Ending Obama era Nation building and focusing on the United States ability to “find and kill” Islamic Jihadists.
